Walgreens will do it -- I'm going to try that with my next roll of film. I didn't know for sure if the camera worked, so I didn't bother with the first two rolls (the first roll was very washed out due to its age, so I wanted to test again before I started getting 5x7s or a CD or something).

The CD is an extra $2.99, and I figure I'll give it a shot to see what kind of resolution and quality I get. I just hope it's just a CD with JPGs and not some monkey-brained PhotoFriend software or somesuch. My mother got some kind of a Kodak viewer thing back with a CD once that barfed stuff all over her registry. Took me a day to get it all luxed out again.

Right now I've got C-41 black and white in it -- I got one roll developed already and it looks pretty great. But I think I'll move to color soon -- I thought it would be great to re-learn the basics in black and white and then go to color, but I think it might be easier the other way around.

I've always used bhpotovideo.com or adorama.com, FYI.

Do you have a nearby place that processes and digitizes film? I've heard that you can now bring in a roll of film and have a CD of hi-res images in an hour many places, and for less than it used to cost to get prints for a roll of film. Is it true?

Whoopee! Finally video embedding works for me. I guess I shouldn't have waited so long to upgrade my WordPress installation.

You're thinking of Jeffrey Gaines -- he was semi-big five or six years ago. Kind of a Lenny Kravitz type, except with talent (zing!) You know, dreadlocked rocker guy, real hard-pushed voice, pretty simple guitar.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7WtavVdBCk

I was just playing his version (both listening to AND playing it myself) last night. It's really a great version of the song -- a song with that much great percussion is hard to do acoustically without stripping all the life out of it, but Jeffrey Gaines puts enough back in that it works. Doesn't hurt that his voice is slightly similar to Peter Gabriel's, too.

A trip down memory lane. I love that song. The live album from the Secret World tour has a nice recording of the Yousou N'Dour version.

There's a guy who does an acoustic-guitar version that I really like. I don't remember his name -- it's on a compilation album from some NPR station (in Portland?) that I can't find at the moment.

Well, er, "barack," I would argue that both parts of that are wrong. Hope you voted too.

Hi Tom!

Man, the comment fiasco on my blog sucks. I've totally lost touch with my readers -- both of you. (Hi Mom!) Anyway, I'm hoping to get a chance over the weekend to nuke the comment database and get back in business.

Hey Tom, just surfing the net during a break here ... I'm in Korea through Wednesday. On beautiful Jeju island now, spending all day in a conference room. Many golf courses here, no time to play. But Tuesday afternoon I'm going on a tour of Sangumburi Crater and the lava caves near here.
